Perri Shakes-Drayton may abandon the 400m hurdles to focus on the 400m sprint, according to her coach Chris Zah.

Perri Shakes-Drayton's coach Chris Zah has revealed that the British athlete could abandon the 400m hurdles due to injury.

The 24-year-old suffered posterior cruciate ligament and cartilage tears during the 400m hurdles final in the World Championships back in August.

Zah has said that after speaking with former Commonwealth 110m hurdles champion Tony Jarrett, Shakes-Drayton may remove the event from her commitments.

"He came back from the same injury but his trail leg was never the same," The Telegraph quotes Zah as saying. "He found he couldn't really use it as he was using it before.

"It also affects the speed at which hurdlers can pull their trail leg through. That's really important for a speedster like Perri."

The athlete may now turn her focus to the 400m sprint.
