Great Britain's discus thrower Beverley Jones has admitted that she had to try to ignore the screaming hoards of supporters in the Olympic Stadium when she strode to a bronze medal in the women's F37 final.

The 37-year-old picked up the medal for the host nation with a season's best throw of 30.99m.

"I am very happy indeed," the Gloucestershire Echo quotes Jones as saying. "The crowd support was fantastic. I did feel a bit of pressure but I knew I had to hold it together.

"You have to switch it off as much as you can, you have to think about what you have been doing in your training. That's the most important thing. I learned a lot in my first event as well.

"This was more what I expected. Tuesday was a good taste of it to get ready for the discus and being in the stadium."

Jones came seventh in the shot put competition.
