Katarina Johnson-Thompson 'frustrated' by injury problems

Heptathlete Katarina Johnson-Thompson targets more medals on the global stage following a frustrating few injury-plagued months.

Katarina Johnson‑Thompson has targeted a global medal to help underline her status as the number one heptathlete in the world.

The 21-year-old, who missed this year's Commonwealth Games in Glasgow due to a stress fracture in her foot, has managed to step out of the shadow of 2012 Olympics hero Jessica Ennis-Hill in recent times.

However, despite being named as the best athlete in her field, Johnson-Thompson believes she must now "prove" that she deserves her top billing following a frustrating few months.

"It's annoying because everything was working up to the Commonwealth Games," she told The Telegraph. "I'm world number one but I haven't got a medal to prove it.

"I always knew this year was a weird year because there wasn't a global event, but Gotzis was like the unofficial world championships because everyone who was anyone was there.

"Coming away from that on top and then still being on top at the end of the season was a bit surreal for me because I never imagined [this success] would happen so soon. Obviously getting injured was frustrating but it was a great season for me when I look back at what I achieved and how far I've come since the Olympics."

Johnson-Thompson won silver in long jump at the World Indoor Championships in Poland earlier this year.
