Neil Gourley clinched the silver medal in the men's 1500m as Great Britain posted three podium finishes on day two of the European Athletics Indoor Championships in Istanbul.
Gourley - who holds the British Indoor record in the event - posted a time of 3:34.23 to finish as runner-up behind Norway's Olympic champion Jakob Ingebrigtsen, who held off a late surge from the silver medallist and set a Championship record with 3:33.95.
Azeddine Habz of France ended with 3:35.39 to take the bronze medal, but it was not to be for Gourley's compatriot George Mills, who ended up in 11th with 3:51.28 on the clock.
"I believed I could do it, I put myself in the right places and I just got beaten by somebody who was better. I have to take that on the chin," Gourley told BBC Sport.
"The whole plan was to be out front so I could react to Jakob's inevitable move and I just didn't have it today. It was important to win a medal, I hadn't done that yet - winning a major medal - so it was important to get that started."
Gourley's silver was one of three medals for GB in the opening finals, as Melissa Courtney-Bryant won her second European Indoor bronze in the 3000m after also placing third in 2019.
The 29-year-old's 8:41.19 was enough for the final spot on the podium behind the German pair of Hanna Klein (8:35.87) and Konstanze Klosterhalfen (8:36.50), while Hannah Nuttall achieved a personal best of 8:46.30 to place fifth.
Daryll Neita also won bronze in the women's 60m with a time of 7.12 seconds, as Switzerland's Mujinga Kambundji (7.00) took the title with Poland's Ewa Swoboda (7.09) in second. body check tags ::
