Sports Mole previews Tuesday's Copa del Rey clash between Atletico Madrid and Getafe, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.
Sports Mole

Atletico Madrid will be aiming to book their spot in the semi-finals of the Copa del Rey when they welcome fellow La Liga outfit Getafe to Wanda Metropolitano on Tuesday night.

Diego Simeone's side will enter the contest off the back of a 2-0 victory over Mallorca in Spain's top flight, while Getafe continued their solid run of form in the same division with a goalless draw against Sevilla.

Match preview

Atletico are enjoying an excellent season, with Simeone's side through to the knockout round of the Champions League, while they are second in the La Liga table, just one point behind leaders Real Madrid.

The Red and Whites, who recorded a 2-0 victory over Mallorca on Saturday, will head to Bernabeu next weekend, and a victory would see them take charge of the title race.

It could be a historic campaign for Atletico, and the team are the favourites heading into Tuesday's quarter-final, but changes are expected ahead of the monumental game with Real Madrid in Spain's top flight this weekend.

Rojiblancos have won the Copa del Rey on 10 separate occasions, which makes them the fourth-most successful side in the history of the competition behind Real Madrid (20), Athletic Bilbao (24) and Barcelona (31).

Atletico have had to win four matches in this season's tournament, overcoming Vic, Cacereno, Marbella and Elche, but this will be their toughest assignment thus far, facing a Getafe outfit that have shown signs of huge improvement of late.

The visitors will bring a six-game unbeaten run into this match, including a goalless draw against Sevilla on Saturday, with the result leaving them 14th in the La Liga table, three points above the relegation zone.

Getafe are only actually four points off eighth-placed Girona, which is an indication of the strength of their recent form, and they have also held Barcelona and beaten Real Sociedad 3-0 in two of their last three La Liga encounters.

Jose Bordalas's side have not lost since December 21, while they are unbeaten on their travels since a 1-0 reverse to Atletico on December 15, and that was an incredibly tight match at Wanda Metropolitano.

Getafe have never won the Copa del Rey, but they have been in the final on two previous occasions, in 2007 and 2008, while the capital side have beaten Manises, Orihuela, Granada and Pontevedra in this season's competition.

The Deep Blue Ones have not beaten Atletico since November 2011 in La Liga, but this will be the first Copa del Rey clash between the two sides since January 2013, when the two sides drew 0-0 in the second leg of their last-16 clash, which finished 3-0 to Atletico.

Team News

Atletico will again be without the services of Javi Galan due to a knee problem, but Rodrigo De Paul is available again after serving a suspension.

Head coach Simeone is set to ring the changes for this match, with Juan Musso, Jose Gimenez, Axel Witsel, Cesar Azpilicueta, Angel Correa, Conor Gallagher and Antoine Griezmann all expected to be introduced into the XI.

Simeone will certainly have one eye on the Madrid derby this weekend, so the likes of Pablo Barrios, Julian Alvarez and Giuliano Simeone are likely to be rested for the cup fixture, but it should still be a team full of quality and experience.

As for Getafe, Allan Nyom is out of the match due to a muscular problem, but Omar Alderete is available following a suspension.

There will be a change between the sticks, with Jiri Letacek set to be introduced, while Borja Mayoral, Alex Sola and Carles Alena could also be brought into the side in the attacking positions on Wednesday night.

Mayoral was introduced off the bench against Sevilla, as Getafe are being careful with his fitness due to his recent injury problems, but the ex-Real Madrid forward could be cleared to feature from the first whistle in this quarter-final contest.

Atletico Madrid possible starting lineup:
Musso; Llorente, Gimenez, Witsel, Azpilicueta; Correa, Gallagher, Koke, Lino; Sorloth, Griezmann

Getafe possible starting lineup:
Letacek; Iglesias, Duarte, Alderete, Rico; Alena, Dakonam, Arambarri, Sola; Uche, Mayoral

We say: Atletico Madrid 1-0 Getafe

This could be a very tricky assignment for Atletico, as Getafe are in good form and do not concede many goals; that said, we are finding it difficult to back the visitors to triumph, with Simeone's side potentially running out 1-0 winners to advance to the next round.
