Great Britain have suffered another Paris 2024 Olympics injury blow as 200m hopeful Zharnel Hughes has withdrawn from Monday's heats with a hamstring issue.
The 29-year-old won gold in the event at the 2022 European Championships and set a British record time of 19.73 seconds at last year's Anniversary Games in London.
However, Hughes was absent from this year's British Championships due to a hamstring injury, and he suffered 100m disappointment over the weekend, crashing out in the semi-finals.
Hughes was set to take part in the 200m heats, which are scheduled to start at 6.55pm on Monday, but British Athletics have now announced his withdrawal, and no decision has been taken on his participation in Thursday's 4x100m men's relay first round.
"Zharnel Hughes has withdrawn from the 200m heats tonight due to hamstring tightness which requires monitoring for the next 48h. No decision taken yet on his relay involvement," a statement read.
Prior to Hughes's 200m withdrawal, GB lost 800m medal prospect Jake Wightman, who suffered a hamstring injury of his own, while skateboarder Sky Brown dislocated her shoulder two weekends ago but still intends to compete at the Games.
A difficult start to Monday's action for the Brits also saw Molly Caudery surprisingly knocked out of the women's pole vault in qualifying, where she failed with all three attempts to clear 4.55m. body check tags ::
