Dina Asher-Smith has recovered from the issues that she suffered in the 100m earlier this week to progress through to the women's 200m semi-finals at the World Athletics Championship.

The British star said that her legs felt empty as she edged through to the 100m final on Monday before finishing last in the final later on the same day.

However, little more than 36 hours after that disappointment, the 27-year-old has been able to win her 200m heat in a time of 22.46 seconds.

That was the eighth fastest time, with 100m winner Sha-Carri Richardson cruising to 22.16 seconds to top the standings and Asher-Smith's compatriots Daryll Neita and Bianca Williams also making it through to the next phase.

In the men's equivalent, Zharnel Hughes remained on course for a double-medal haul for Great Britain by winning the first heat in a time of 19.99 seconds.

Hughes, who stormed to bronze in the 100m, was the only participant to run under 20 seconds, although 100m champion and 200m favourite Noah Lyles breezed to a time of 20.05 seconds.

Meanwhile, Keely Hodgkinson prevailed in her 800m heat as she bids to go one step further than her silvers at previous World Championships and Olympic Games.

Hodgkinson was joined by British compatriot by Jemma Reekie in making it through to the semi-finals, while defending champion Athing Mu also had few issues in edging closer to another gold medal.
