Jenny Meadows has rated her performance in the semi-finals of the women's 800m at the World Athletics Championships as a "two or three out of 10".
The 34-year-old was among the early pacesetters in her heat, but fell away on the last lap and ultimately finished in seventh place with a time of 2:00.53.
Meadows acknowledged that it was always going to be difficult to make it through to the final, but believes that she should have done better in Beijing.
"These semi-finals are really, really tough. I knew I was up against it but when you are standing on the start line you hope," she told BBC Sport.
"I was looking for 1:59, that would've been a consolation, but I didn't do myself justice. I felt lacklustre and lethargic but had no reason to feel like that.
"I've had a number of years injured and being ill and it feels quite alien competing against the people you've been watching for so long. I give myself a two or three out of 10. It's a season best, but not what I was looking for."
Meadows's compatriot Shelayna Oskan-Clarke did make it through to the final, shaving more than a second off her personal best to win her heat.
