Training partner Christian Taylor has said that Shara Proctor 'took her opportunity' as she secured a silver medal in the women's long jump at the World Athletics Championships on Friday.
GB athlete Proctor appeared on course for gold with a new national record of 7.07m, but she was pipped by American Tianna Bartoletta, who registered 7.14m with her final jump.
Nevertheless, Taylor, who set the second-longest distance ever in claiming gold in the men's triple jump, has insisted that Proctor overcame several "mental hurdles" in winning a medal.
The 25-year-old told BBC Sport: "There were some mental hurdles Shara had to get over and she really dialled into that.
"I was just telling her to be in that moment and build off the energy. It's a special night and you don't often get this opportunity.
"Up to the fifth last jump, she was in the number one spot, but it only takes one performance and someone else can take that gold. Unfortunately she just lost out but it's a new national record."
Proctor's only previous medal on the global stage came at the World Indoors in 2012.
