Mo Farah retains his 10,000m crown at the World Athletics Championships in Beijing.

Mo Farah has regained his 10,000m crown at the World Athletics Championships after beating Geoffrey Kamworor in a sprint finish in Beijing.

The Briton produced a last lap of 54s to shake off the competition and take his sixth gold at world and Olympic level.

A fast start by the trio of Bedan Muchiri, Paul Tanui and Kamworor, with a succession of 63s and 64s laps, suggested that the Kenyans were intent on breaking Farah in the early stages.

However, the defending world champion moved up before the halfway stage to stay on the tail of the leading pack, as they moved through the 5,000m mark.

As Kamworor continued to set the pace at the front, Imane Merga and Muktar Edris of Ethiopia were dropped as Farah and London 2012 silver medallist Galen Rupp tracked the world cross-country champion as he tried to stretch the field further.

However, despite failed attempts to stop the defending champion hitting the front, Farah took the lead at the bell and, after a brief stumble, the Briton produced a better sprint finish to clock a time just outside 27 minutes.

Farah will go for his second gold medal in the 5,000m at the end of the week, hoping to become the first long-distance runner to complete the double at consecutive World Championships.
