Team Wales chef de mission Brian Davies insists that everything is prepared in the Athletes' Village at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games to welcome their 232 members.

Team Wales chef de mission Brian Davies has insisted that he is ready to welcome their biggest ever team to Glasgow for the Commonwealth Games.

The majority of competitors will arrive at the Dragon's Lair base tomorrow as they prepare for the start of the Games, which officially get underway next Wednesday.

Wales will have 232 athletes representing them in the 'friendly Games', but Davies is adamant that the environment in the Athletes' Village will breed motivation.

"Members of the HQ team have been in the Village for a week now and we're making the final touches to our preparations," said Davies. "We've endeavoured to create an environment for the athletes that will breed success and motivation and we're almost ready to welcome the first team on Thursday.

"Our athletes have a world class support team around them. From sport science and medicine experts to an experienced HQ team, coaches and athlete officials, we have surrounded them with 109 people, all part of one team that will work together to provide the best and most professional environment for them to succeed."

Compared to the Delhi Games four years ago, Wales will have 45 more members for the 11-day competition in Glasgow, but Davies has insisted that each athlete is worthy of their place.

"We're sending our biggest team but rest assured we haven't compromised on standards," Davies added. "The qualification and selection process has been stricter than ever before and so those arriving in the village in just a few days' time are absolutely the best in Wales and should feel immensely proud of earning their chance to represent Wales at these Games."

The opening ceremony, which will feature a performance from Rod Stewart, will take place on July 23.
