England's Chris Adcock has called for quick improvement after he and Andrew Ellis battled to a 17-21 21-16 21-15 victory over Welsh duo Daniel Font and Oliver Gwilt at the Commonwealth Games.
It appeared that the top seeds were on course for a shock defeat before overturning a deficit in the final game to ensure England will have two teams in the semi-finals, and Adcock concedes that the display was not good enough.
"It's not really acceptable to play like we did, but that said we did turn it on when we needed to and luckily we got through, and that's the main focus," the 25-year-old told Team England's official website.
"We need to improve the performance, we know that the level is there and we have been playing it all week."
England's Chris Langridge and Peter Mills also reached the semi-finals on Friday with a win over Australia's Glenn Warfe and Raymond Tam.
