Liverpool transfer news: Darwin Nunez 'asking price set' amid interest

Liverpool allegedly determine what fee that they would be prepared to accept if offers are made for forward Darwin Nunez.

Liverpool have reportedly determined the valuation of Darwin Nunez amid alleged interest in his signature.

When arriving from Benfica in the summer of 2022, Nunez was sold in a deal that could potentially rise to £85m if all add-ons are activated.

Despite contributing 37 goals and 20 assists from his 120 appearances in all competitions, there is an argument that Liverpool may soon be in need of an upgrade on the Uruguay international.

Just four goals and three assists have come since the appointment of Arne Slot, the 25-year-old effectively third choice between Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota at the present time.

According to Football Insider, the Premier League leaders have decided what fee would tempt them into a sale.

What is Nunez's asking price?

The report alleges that any offer between £50m and £60m would be enough for Liverpool to consider cashing in on Nunez.

Newcastle United have recently been linked with an approach for the player, despite the aforementioned report claiming that an offer is unlikely at the present time.

While it is accepted that Liverpool are not in a position to demand the fee that they shelled out for Nunez, they seemingly feel that a figure in the region of £50m is a fair price.

That would also ensure that the club make a profit from an amortisation standpoint, Nunez currently approaching the midway point of a six-year contract.

Although Liverpool would require a replacement of some kind, strengthening at right-back and centre-back is arguably the bigger priority as it stands.

Trent Alexander-Arnold is seemingly increasingly likely to move to Real Madrid on a free transfer, while Virgil van Dijk turns 34 years of age in July.

Could Slot hand Nunez a reprieve?

With Nunez netting just once in his last 10 appearances, it is fair to say that another Premier League start appears unlikely in the short term.

Nevertheless, Liverpool face Tottenham Hotspur in the EFL Cup semi-finals on Wednesday night before playing host to League Two outfit Accrington Stanley in the FA Cup at the weekend.

Slot could plausibly give Nunez the chance to rediscover some confidence against either or both opponents, aware that chances should come his way.

At a time when Federico Chiesa's fitness issues have effectively left Liverpool short of depth in the final third, Slot will need to make use of Nunez on a regular basis. body check tags ::
