Derek Fisher has taken to Twitter to admit his 'disappointment' at being fired as head coach of the New York Knicks.
The Eastern Conference side parted ways with Fisher on Monday, one-and-a-half seasons into his five-year contract, after a run of nine defeats in ten games.
By the time of Fisher's firing, the Knicks were 23-31 for the season and in with a shout of the playoffs, a dramatic improvement on last year's dismal record of just 17 wins all season.
"I want to express my deep gratitude to James Dolan, Phil Jackson, Steve Mills and the entire New York Knicks organization for giving me this incredible opportunity," Fisher wrote. "I also want to thank my staff, players and the fans for their passion and support.
"This is a very talented team with strong character and I am confident they will succeed. Obviously, I am disappointed, but have learned an immense amount from this experience and hope to grow from it."
The 41-year-old stepped up into management following a playing career that included stints at the LA Lakers, Golden State Warriors and Oklahoma City Thunder.
