Team GB have been beaten 74-58 in their preliminary round match against Australia in group B.
Despite starting well, the British team failed to take advantage of some good spells of possession during the first quarter.
Australia settled much better in the second quarter and their key player, Lauren Jackson, started to take control of the game by frequently completing some impressive phases of play.
Team GB's defensive game looked to be in good shape but their lack of quality at the end of plays allowed Australia to take a 39-26 half-time lead.
The home crowd seemed to encourage Team GB after the interval and the game was a much closer contest in the third period, despite Australia still edging the quarter in the scoring stakes.
However, the deficit could not be reduced and Australia ended the match as comfortable winners, with Jackson finishing on 18 points.
