Germany's Julius Brink and Jonas Reckermann have won the Olympic gold medal in the men's beach volleyball after a narrow three-set victory over Alison Cerutti and Emanuel Rego of Brazil.
The Brazilian duo looked to be on their way to winning the opening set, but the German pairing saved two set points before closing it out 23-21.
It was more straightforward for Cerutti and Rego in the second as they took it 21-16.
In a tight decider it was Brink and Reckermann who came out 16-14 winners after they had squandered three match points to clinch the gold medal.
Martins Plavins and Janis Smedins of Latvia had earlier claimed the bronze medal thanks to a 2-1 win over Reinder Nummerdor and Rich Schuil from the Netherlands.
