The head of Angola's Olympic team has called the coach of Tumba Silva a "plonker" for failing to attend the weigh-in.
The heavyweight was due to fight Italy's Clemente Russo on Wednesday night, but did not compete due to missing the mandatory weigh-in, which resulted in his disqualification.
Antonio Monteiro has now revealed that Silva was "inconsolable" after being told that his coach, who was obliged to attend, was not present.
"That plonker of a coach, for he has no other name, failed to go to the technical meeting or the athlete's weigh-in, between eight and nine in the morning," Monteiro told Portuguese paper A Bola.
"The athlete was inconsolable, he cried like a child. The coach was such a plonker that I had to give the athlete the news myself. He cried so much that I myself could not speak.
"Tumba had put practically his whole life into this fight. Win or lose, he wanted this to be a mark for him."
Russo will now face Jose Larduet on Sunday.
