Australia's gold medal hope in the light-heavyweight division has promised not to repeat his display of the Aboriginal flag, his head coach has confirmed.
The 20-year-old entered the ring prior to his 13-11 victory over United States' Marcus Browne with the flag of his ancestry emblazoned on his t-shirt.
The move broke the IOC's strict rules that forbid athletes to use the Games as any sort of political platform.
However, despite initially seeming unrepentant, Nick Green has insisted that Hooper will not do it again.
"We know Damien's got a very proud indigenous heritage," said Green. "I've had a conversation with Damien, he's extremely apologetic for his actions.
"He has confirmed with me it was a one off and he won't do it again. He was very remorseful.
"He's apologised and looked me in the eye and said he won't do it again."
Hooper now faces Russia's Egor Mekhontcev in the last 16.
