British boxer Mike Towell has died in hospital after suffering serious injuries in a bout in Scotland on Thursday night.
Towell fought fellow domestic welterweight contender Dale Evans at the Radisson Blu hotel in Glasgow where he was knocked down twice in a fifth-round stoppage defeat.
The fight was halted soon after the second knockdown before Towell received medical assistance and was taken to hospital soon after the contest.
It was revealed that the 25-year-old from Dundee had suffered severe bleeding and swelling to his brain as the boxing fraternity posted messages of support on social media.
However, his management team St Andrews Sporting Club announced on Friday evening that Towell had passed away as a result of his injuries.
Since his professional debut in March 2013, he had recorded 11 successive victories before his clash with Evans on Thursday.
