Jack Catterall keen to make up for lost time versus world champion Josh Taylor

Mandatory challenger Jack Catterall admits that he is keen to make up for lost time when facing undisputed super-lightweight world champion Josh Taylor on Saturday.

Jack Catterall feels that his lack of big-fight experience will not count against him when facing undisputed super-lightweight world champion Josh Taylor on Saturday night.

Catterall, who has been WBO mandatory challenger for over two years, stepped aside in 2021 to allow Taylor and Jose Ramirez to compete for all four belts in Las Vegas, a bout which the Scot won by unanimous decision.

Taylor's CV is significant stronger than Catterall's, partly owing to the latter having a number of tickover fights, but the Englishman says that he is ready to cause what would be regarded as a seismic shock in Glasgow.

Speaking to BBC Sport, the 28-year-old said: "I've been working for a fight like this my whole life.

"Josh has of course boxed at the highest level but I just think I have been denied that opportunity so far in my career. Come fight night this is my chance to prove I am the best fighter in the UK and the world.

"I have had some brilliant fights so far and beat everyone domestically, so now I've got that opportunity to catapult myself on to the world stage."

Catterall's last high-profile fight came all the way back in October 2018, where he claimed a points win over Ohara Davies in Leicester. body check tags ::
