James DeGale: 'Carl Froch should stay retired'

IBF super-middleweight champion James DeGale says that Carl Froch should stay retired rather than return to the ring to face him.

James DeGale has described Carl Froch as "old news" and suggested that the former world champion should not come out of retirement.

In recent weeks, Froch has indicated that he may return to the sport to win back the IBF super-middleweight title, currently held by DeGale, although the Nottingham puncher maintains that he is happily retired.

DeGale has previously expressed his desire to face the 38-year-old, but he has since said that Froch should forget any plans for a potential comeback.

The 29-year-old told Sky Sports News: "I think it's just a bit of publicity for him saying he will come back and give me a pasting. Froch is old news, he's an old man.

"If I was him, I would just stay retired and chill. He's achieved a lot in boxing, he's earned a lot of money. Just sit back and relax. There's no point in coming back and fighting me, trust me."

DeGale is scheduled to make the first defence of his IBF crown on November 28 against Lucien Bute, who Froch stopped in five rounds in 2012.
