Napoli forward Victor Osimhen is reportedly determined to secure a move to Manchester United before the January transfer window closes for business, with the Red Devils said to be exploring a move.
The 26-year-old joined Galatasaray on loan from Napoli last summer, and he has represented the Turkish giants on 16 occasions, scoring 13 goals and registering five assists in the process.
Osimhen is due to finish the season with the Istanbul club, but there have recently been claims that the Nigeria international could be involved in a sensational swap deal with Marcus Rashford, which would see the Englishman head to Napoli.
According to Business Day, the striker has made it clear that he wants to move to Old Trafford, and it is understood that 'preliminary moves' have taken place with a view to a deal going through this month.
The report claims that Napoli may allow Osimhen to leave for €75m (£62m), although Galatasaray may also have to be paid €10m (£8m) as compensation in order to cut his loan spell short.
Osimhen 'expresses a desire' to complete Man United move
Osimhen has a record of 76 goals and 18 assists in 133 matches for Napoli, including 65 goals and 16 assists in 108 outings in the top flight of Italian football, but he is unlikely to represent the club again.
Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea were both linked with the Nigerian last year, while there is believed to be serious interest from the Saudi Pro League, but Osimhen allegedly wants to move to the Premier League.
Man United head coach Ruben Amorim has confirmed that his club "will try to do something" during the January transfer window despite their financial issues this month.
"When the window is open, we can try to do something and we will try to do something. But I think, in the next weeks, we are going to have more time to train and we can improve, that's the only way," Amorim told reporters on Friday.
"We had a lot of games without training, now we will have more space to grow. You can see that the context is worse in this moment, as we had a lot of losses, so we have to manage everything."
When asked about which positions are in need of strengthening, Amorim said: "I will keep that to myself. But we'll try to do something."
How could Man United fund a move for Osimhen?
Financial Fair Play and the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability rules have left Man United in a tough spot this month, with the Red Devils allegedly having 'no budget' at this moment in time.
However, the situation would change if the 20-time English champions were able to move players on, and a number of first-team stars are currently being linked with Old Trafford departures.
Rashford, as mentioned, is being heavily linked with an exit and could be involved in the Osimhen deal, while Joshua Zirkzee, Casemiro, Christian Eriksen and Victor Lindelof are all believed to be available.
Moving two or three of those players on would see Man United make significant savings in terms of wages, potentially opening the door for a spectacular move for Osimhen, especially if Rashford can be sold in January, as his departure would count as pure profit when it comes to the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability rules. body check tags ::
