Carl Froch: 'It was only right to accept George Groves challenge'

Carl Froch says that accepting a challenge from mandatory challenger George Groves was only right, as the pair agreed to clash later this year.

IBF and WBA super-middleweight champion Carl Froch has said that it was only right that he agreed to a clash with mandatory challenger George Groves.

'The Cobra' will square off against the unbeaten Groves in an all-British affair later this year, and Froch said that Groves's standing in the division meant that the decision to agree to the fight was an easy one to make.

"I am a proper fighter and a proper champion and I will always face my mandatory challenger rather than vacate the title," PA quotes Froch as saying.

"I've known George for a while, I've sparred with him and watched him grow and now he's my mandatory - I will be pouring everything into my preparation for the fight and George will face the very best of me.

"George Groves is now mandatory for the IBF world title, and I'll fight anybody and I've proven that in my whole career."

Froch, who overcame Mikkel Kessler in his last fight back in May, feels that the bout with Groves will capture the imagination of the country.

"It is better this way than a low-key overseas opponent as this fight will relight memories of some of the great all-British clashes and with World titles on the line it's a really huge occasion and one that will grab the attention of British sports fans," he added.

The proposed dust-up is likely to take place in November or December.
