David Haye hopes to talk Vitali Klitschko into heavyweight showdown

David Haye tells Vitali Klitschko that he needs to retire with a big fight against a marquee name, something he can deliver.

David Haye has admitted that he is hoping to appeal to Vitali Klitschko's desire to compete and convince the Ukrainian giant to fight him before retiring.

The 41-year-old scored a stoppage victory over Manuel Chaar in Moscow on Saturday after opening a deep cut above Chaar's eye in the fourth round.

Haye told Sky Sports News that Vitali should be aiming far higher with his last fight before pursuing a career in politics, and the Bermondsey boy thinks that he can fit the bill.

He said: "I want to convince him that he hasn't had a defining fight yet. His biggest fight to date was against Lennox Lewis, which he lost.

"Although he's had a long string of victories, none of them have been against opponents that have brought any excitement, any entertainment.

"Saturday night was against an opponent I'd never heard of - there was no headline, no hype. For someone who wants to retire, you want to retire on a big fight."

Haye dominated domestic rival Dereck Chisora with a brutal knockout victory at Upton Park in July to send a warning to Vitali Klitschko, who was taken the full 12 rounds by the same opponent.
