Anthony Joshua describes rival Dillian Whyte as a "stepping stone" ahead of their British and Commonwealth heavyweight title clash at London's O2 Arena.

British heavyweight Anthony Joshua has said that he and opponent Dillian Whyte are "just prospects" ahead of their showdown at London's O2 Arena on Saturday night.

Joshua's Commonwealth title and the vacant British strap will be on the line when the two arch rivals clash on Saturday night, but the Olympic gold medallist has hinted that he sees the fight as a "stepping stone" ahead of high-profile fights that could potentially happen in 2016.

The 26-year-old is quoted by Sky Sports News as saying: "When you talk of tests, I talk of Klitschko, Fury and the likes of Haye who was the cruiserweight champion. They're credible opponents, ranked in the top 10.

"We are just prospects. Two young prospects who are coming up, who have potential of competing for the heavyweight championship.

"These are the tests that I'm looking to get myself to, by getting through Dillian. These guys are just stepping stones that I'm trying to beat now to get to the real tests, which will prove me as one of the best heavyweights in the division."

Both men are unbeaten heading into the contest, with Joshua winning 14 matches all by knockout and Whyte earning 16 victories in a row, with 13 of them inside the distance.
