Brian Rose promises that the best is yet to come after beating Argentina's Javier Maciel to earn a shot at the WBO light-middleweight title.

Brian Rose has said that the best is yet to come after earning a shot at the WBO light-middleweight title by beating Javier Manciel in a thrilling 12-round contest in Sheffield.

It was a close fight at the Morotpoint Arena, but the 28-year-old from Blackpool prevailed with scores of 116-113 and 117-111 to the Argentine's 115-113, improving his record to 25-1-1.

"I'm usually a pretty cool character, but I wasn't cool when I got that decision - I burst into tears," he told Sky Sports News.

"I found it really hard at times - there were times when I had to dig deep. I've never had to do that before. I was a bit unsure, I thought I'd done enough, I thought I was up by three or four rounds.

"You still haven't seen the best of me, as I go up in levels the better I get. I'm happy with that performance, I'm more than happy. I'm over the moon."

Rose will likely face the winner between current champion Demetrius Andrade and Vanes Martirosyan, who fight in Texas on November 9.
