British super-middleweight Callum Smith says that he would accept a 2016 fight with George Groves if a deal could be agreed.

British super-middleweight Callum Smith has acknowledged that his main target is WBC champion Badou Jack, but insists that a clash with George Groves could still happen.

Last weekend, Smith extended his unbeaten record to 18 matches with a first-round stoppage of Rocky Fielding to win the British title and put himself in line for an opportunity to face Jack in 2016.

However, Smith feels that a domestic showdown with Groves, who lost by split decision to Jack in September, could still happen in the next 12 months providing that a deal can be agreed.

The 25-year-old told Sky Sports News: "It's still a possibility. [Groves] is still a big name but I am ranked number one with the WBC so my aims are on Badou Jack sometime in the next year.

"I feel I am ahead of George Groves right now but if the fight was offered I would take it. He is a big name at the end of the day and if the terms are right then yes.

"I am sure it is a good fight for the British fans with two big British fighters going against each other."

Promoter Eddie Hearn has said that he hopes that Smith will be named mandatory challenger for Jack's belt or that a final eliminator will be ordered for the spring.
