Northern Ireland's head coach John Conlan has backed the squad to dominate the semi-finals at the Commonwealth Games on Friday.

The nation are guaranteed to collect nine medals in the ring in Glasgow, and Conlan is hopeful that the majority of his fighters can record victories in their respective divisions.

"Boxing in Northern Ireland has always been very strong - there used to be a joke that we had lots of heart but no technique. Now we have technique and heart," Conlan told reporters.

"We came here for 11 gold medals, and I don't see why we cannot go on now and get nine. Bronze isn't enough and I never asked any of them to enter the Commonwealth Games to win bronze. Gold is all that matters."

Conlan's son, Michael, is in the last four of the bantamweight class, but he has told Sports Mole that he is not thinking about the bronze medal.
