James DeGale has defeated Brandon Gonzalez with a stoppage in the fourth round to win their IBF super-middleweight title eliminator contest.
DeGale hit his opponent with a fierce volley of blows in the fourth round, but Gonzalez soon struck back with a reply of his own as he backed DeGale onto the ropes.
The Englishman regained his composure, however, unloading a barrage of hits to force Gonzalez back before connecting with a strong left.
Gonzalez made the count, but DeGale was straight in again with another left to send the Californian boxer back to the canvas, forcing the referee to call an end to the clash.
Trainer Virgil Hunter entered the ring to berate the referee for his decision to end the contest when he did, with DeGale embarking on a celebration lap.
The 28-year-old is now expected to face the winner of tonight's George Groves vs. Carl Froch encounter - live text commentary of which can be found here.
