Iraqi welterweight Ahmed Abdulkareem Ahmed has fallen at the first hurdle by slipping to a 17-13 defeat to South Africa's Siphiwe Lusizi.
The South African started brightly and found himself getting the better of the Iraqi, but that forced Ahmed into action and he gained confidence after a nice right-left combination.
Lusizi looked to have weather a mini-storm with an efficient performance in the second round, which helped him into a 12-8 lead going into the last.
Ahmed struck a telling blow to open the round and Lusizi's work became a bit ragged. Another left was inches from its target and seemed to just glance Lusizi's jaw.
In the end, the South African regained some composure and he managed to hang on for his spot in the next round.
