Italy's Daniele Molmenti claimed K1 kayak Olympic gold at the Lee Valley Centre this afternoon.
The 28-year-old, who went out third from last, produced a faultless run to record a time of 93.43 seconds.
That time was over one second quicker than the one that was produced by the Czech Republic's Vavrenic Hradilek, who took the silver medal.
A time of 94.92 seconds from Germany's Hannes Aigner was enough to claim bronze.
World number one and pre-event favourite Peter Kauzer went out last, but he could only post a time that saw him end the contest in sixth place.
