Former Australia captain Ian Chappell has claimed that Darren Lehmann's criticism of Stuart Broad is "hypocritical".

The Australia coach was fined 20% of his match fee for the fifth Ashes Test following the comments he made about the England player to an Australian radio station.

Chappell has said that Australians, who have traditionally waited for the umpire's decision before walking, should not criticise opponents for doing the same thing.

"I don't like to be called a cheat and basically he is calling all people who don't walk a cheat, which would include himself," Chappell told BBC Radio 5 Live.

"Cheat is not a word you should use very light-heartedly, and even if you are being light-hearted that's a word you should steer away from.

"And even when you've got your tongue in your cheek it's pretty hypocritical for an Australian to complain about somebody not walking."

Lehmann's comments referred to Broad's refusal to walk after edging a delivery to Michael Clarke during the first Test at Trent Bridge.
