Peter Siddle: 'Australia will improve at Lord's'

Bowler Peter Siddle insists that Australia will perform better in the second Ashes test at Lord's, which begins on Thursday.

Australia bowler Peter Siddle has said that he believes his side's bowling performance will improve during the second Test match at Lord's.

England eased to a 1-0 lead in the Ashes series with victory in Cardiff last week, but ahead of the next contest in North London, Siddle is anticipating a strong response from the tourists.

The 30-year-old told reporters: "We need to perform better with bat and ball. Our standards over the last couple of years have been high quality but we let that slip in Cardiff.

"I remember in 1997, we lost the first Test and still won the Ashes. We will be playing strong and aggressive cricket and we will be looking to level the series.

"What we have been is very consistent with our bowling and our line and length but we were not anywhere near our normal high standards - and that showed. But the boys are upbeat and want to turn things around - I can see a different contest this week."

Siddle could be drafted into the starting lineup if Mitchell Starc fails to recover from an injury picked up in the opening Test.
