Australia have called up uncapped batsman Joe Burns for the Boxing Day Test against India in Melbourne.
The 25-year-old replaces the injured Mitchell Marsh for the third match of a series which the hosts lead 2-0.
Burns told reporters: "I'm over the moon at the news. It's the best Christmas present I could ever hope for and it took a fair while to sink in."
Coach Darren Lehmann feels that the Queensland right-hander fits the "aggressive" mould of the current squad.
Lehmann added: "He's a very good player against fast bowling and he's had a good couple of summers at the Gabba with Queensland.
"There have been some good contenders for that spot and it's always a tough call on other players.
"He's a very aggressive player, which is the way we like to play our cricket. We went with Joe, he's a younger player and we feel he has something about him."
Burns has scored 2,978 first-class runs at an average of 42.54 since his debut in 2011, and made a career-best 183 against New South Wales last month.
