Captain Michael Clarke has been omitted from the Australia squad for the first two one-day internationals against Sri Lanka.
The 31-year-old batsman will be rested in order to allow him to recover from a hamstring injury.
National Selector John Inverarity said: "Michael has been battling a hamstring injury for a few weeks and will have a break, as will Matthew Wade and David Warner.
"These three players have played in all six Vodafone Test matches this summer and the intention is to have them returning to the ODI squad refreshed."
George Bailey will skipper the side in Clarke's absence for the matches, which will take place on January 11 and 13.
