Australian batsman Chris Rogers has spoken of the emotion he felt at reaching his maiden Test century on day two of the fourth Ashes Test at Durham.

The 35-year-old, whose only previous Test appearance was against India in Perth five years ago, said that England's players tried their best to distract him as he closed in on triple figures.

"I got to the 90s and the England boys were saying 'if you don't get it now, you may never'," Reuters quotes Rogers as saying.

"They were fine, it's exactly what we would be doing if it was the other way around. I think they were quite good to be honest, they all said 'well done' at the end.

"It was just a fantastic moment to finally get it. I'm not a huge celebrator ... I guess you just want to soak it up and that's probably why I was like that. It was emotional out there today, that's for sure."

Australia trail by 16 runs heading into day three.
