Australia's David Warner: "I hooked another one to Rooty"

David Warner says that he understands the treatment he has received from the English crowd following his controversial altercation with England batsman Joe Root.

Australia's David Warner has joked that he "hooked another one" to Joe Root for his dismissal on day four of the third Ashes Test match at Old Trafford.

The 26-year-old batsman, who was recently involved in a nightclub altercation with his England counterpart, was caught at deep square-leg while trying to pull Tim Bresnan but managed to raise a smile when being interviewed.

"Yeah, I hooked another one to Rooty," he told Sky Sports News. "Out of all the people on the field, it's quite comical. I'm just waiting to read Twitter a bit later.

"I'm not well-liked at the moment, but this morning was actually quite entertaining down on the boundary. I actually liked the trumpeter playing the Rocky theme song. It was actually entertaining for me, and I had a little chuckle."

Warner has embraced the role of 'pantomime villain' during the series and accepts that he is to blame for the treatment that he has received from the English crowd.

"Obviously it was all my fault," he added. "I've got to keep my head down and focus on what my task ahead is - and that's scoring runs.

"It's not every day you walk out on the field and get booed, but you've got to embrace it. Your job is ahead of you and that's all you can concentrate on."

Australia are 172-7 heading into the final day.
