Australia bowl out Sri Lanka for 156 as they take control of the second Test match in Melbourne.

Australia have taken control of the second Test match against Sri Lanka after they bowled the tourists out for 156.

Mitchell Johnson took four wickets as Sri Lanka were dismissed in just over 43 overs, before Australia returned to post 150-3 at the close of play.

Sri Lanka's batsmen were decimated by a ferocious Australia bowling attack as they quickly fell to 37-3.

The wickets continued to tumble but Kumar Sangakkara showed some resistance with an innings of 58 that saw him pass 10,000 Test runs.

However, after he became Johnson's fourth victim, Sri Lanka soon lost their remaining two wickets to put them on the back foot in the match.

A 95-run opening stand between Ed Cowan and David Warner got Australia's innings off to the perfect start.

However, Sri Lanka struck back with three quick wickets to restrict Australia to 117-3 before Shane Watson and Michael Clarke combined to take their side to the close of play just six runs behind.
