Mitchell Marsh takes four wickets to help Australia seal a 177-run win over the West Indies in the second Test in Melbourne.

Mitchell Marsh took four wickets to help Australia seal a 177-run win over the West Indies in the second Test in Melbourne on Tuesday.

The 24-year-old ended the innings on figures of 4-61 after dismissing Marlon Samuels (19), Denesh Ramdin (59), Jason Holder (68) and Jerome Taylor for a duck in West Indies' second innings.

The hosts began the day on 179-3 with a lead of 459 runs, after dismissing their opponents for 271 on day three and opting to bat again as opposed to enforcing the follow-on.

Australia captain Steven Smith was impressive once again at the crease as he hit an unbeaten 70 off as many balls, while Marsh was 18 not out when the hosts declared.

Kraigg Braithwaite and Rajendra Chandrika opened the second innings for the Windies, but they managed just 31 and 37 runs respectively.

Holder top-scored with 68 off 86 deliveries, while Ramdin added nine runs to a half-century, but both were taken out by Marsh, who was one of four bowlers, including Nathan Lyon, James Pattinson and Peter Siddle, to take wickets on day four.

The result also means that Australia have officially retained the Frank Worrell Trophy.

The third Test will begin in Sydney on January 3.
