Nathan Lyon removes Cheteshwar Pujara for 73 as India progress to 223-3 to trail Australia by 294 runs on day three of the first Test.

India have reached tea on 223-3 to trail Australia by 294 runs on the third day of the first Test match at the Adelaide Oval.

After starting the afternoon session on 119-2, the tourists made good progress as Cheteshwar Pujara (73) and Virat Kohli (48*) took advantage of a pitch which continues to favour the batting side.

Pujara looked comfortable on his way to recording a half-century, but the return of Nathan Lyon helped Australia make a crucial breakthrough as the ball deflected off the thigh before hitting the stumps after India's number three had lunged forward to defend.

Ajinkya Rahane (19*) joined his captain at the crease to guide India to the break without another setback as Australia's seamers continued to toil away in difficult conditions.
