Persistent rain has caused a premature end to the Big Bash League encounter between Hobart Hurricanes and Adelaide Strikers this morning.
The clash, which was initially reduced to eight overs per side after drizzle had delayed the start of the match by 90 minutes, ended with the Hurricanes 87-1 after six overs, courtesy of an Alex Hales-inspired performance prior to rain stopping play.
The 24-year-old was on the verge of completing one of the quickest fifties in the history of the competition, hitting nine fours and a single six en route to registering 49 runs after just 19 balls.
However, the Englishman was run out by Evan Gulbis when attempting to claim his half-century.
Michael Klinger remained unbeaten at the crease, recording 32 (17) before the abandonment, while batting partner Phil Hughes also remains in play having yet to bat for the Hurricanes.
