Stuart Broad's hat-trick helps England back into the second Test against India at Trent Bridge.

A hat-trick from Stuart Broad helped to drag England back into the second Test against India after the tourists had started to build a daunting lead.

Broad, whose knock of 64 on Friday guided England to a first innings score of 221, dismissed Yuvraj Singh, Mahendra Dhoni and Praveen Kumar in succession to the delight of his home crowd.

India had been in control as Rahul Dravid and Singh built a partnership of 128, with England's bowling attack being frustrated by the two experienced batsmen at Trent Bridge.

Dravid proved to be the biggest thorn in England's side as he finished on 117, eventually bowled by Tim Bresnan.

However, an uninterrupted 16-ball spell saw England take five wickets for no runs, leaving India with a lead of 67.

Broad's figures of 6-46 are a career best, while his hat-trick is the first India have suffered in Test cricket since their inception in 1932.

England ended the day on 24-1 after Alistair Cook was caught for five.
