England captain Alastair Cook praises Stuart Broad's contribution to his side's Ashes victory after the fast bowler took six wickets in a dramatic evening session at Chester-le-Street.

England captain Alastair Cook has heaped praise upon Stuart Broad after the fast bowler inspired his side to victory in the fourth Ashes Test.

Broad took six wickets in an action-packed evening session that saw Australia collapse from 120-1 to 224 all out, handing England the series win in the process.

While Broad's figures of 6-50 stole the show, Cook was also keen to highlight the importance of his side's batting this morning and the bowling of Tim Bresnan, who claimed the wicket of David Warner for 71 to begin the collapse.

"At 120 for one, Australia were batting very well and we didn't quite get right but the character and skill after tea was fantastic," said the England skipper.

"Tim Bresnan tied it up at that end, we talk about bowling in partnerships and without him going at one an over, Broady couldn't have got those wickets.

"We wanted to be up towards 300. Our lower order have scored runs and it's proved vital for us."

England will now look to make it a 4-0 series win when the fifth and final Test gets underway at the Oval on August 21.
