England captain Alastair Cook says that his side must "deliver something very special" in Perth in order to keep their hopes of retaining The Ashes alive.

England captain Alastair Cook has said that his side must "deliver something very special" in Perth in order to keep their hopes of retaining The Ashes alive.

Following their 218-run defeat in Adelaide, the tourists trail 2-0 in the best-of-five Test series, which continues on Friday.

Both of their losses so far have come following underwhelming team performances with the bat. After being all out for just 136 and 179 in Brisbane, Cook's England lost 20 wickets for 484 runs in the batting-friendly conditions of the Adelaide Oval.

"What's gone on in the past is of no relevance whatsoever," Cook told reporters.

"We have to go there as this side in 2013 and deliver something very special or we're not going to do what we've come to do."

England and Australia have played 12 previous Test matches at The WACA, where the hosts have recorded eight wins over their old rivals, who have triumphed on just one occasion - in 1978.

During those 12 clashes, Australia have averaged 36.09 runs per wicket, compared to England's 26.67.
