England captain Alastair Cook insists that his team are good enough to make history by winning a fourth straight Ashes series this winter.

England captain Alastair Cook has insisted that his team are good enough to make history by winning a fourth straight Ashes series.

Following victories in 2009, 2011 and their 3-0 home success this summer, England will be the favourites to continue their winning run when Test cricket's most famous rivalry resumes Down Under this winter.

"I think we have to be confident," Cook told Sky Sports News. "We just won our third Ashes series in a row and I think that's a great achievement. We now have a chance to win another one very quickly. It's a very tough place to go and play is Australia.

"It's an unforgiving sporting environment and you have to be right at the top of your game if you want to compete and you want to win and we know that. As a side, we're ready for that challenge. We've got a break for about four weeks and it's important that we use that rest well because we know how long a tour it's going to be.

"A few of us have some fond memories of the last tour in Australia, but knowing we can play well and win, it's important we draw on those experiences. I do feel we have a squad good enough to win if we play well."

England won the first eight Ashes series, but they have not won four in a row since 1890. The 68th Ashes series gets underway on November 21 in Brisbane.
