Manchester United have reportedly received a second boost in their pursuit of AC Milan's Theo Hernandez, with the France international potentially available during the January transfer window.

Hernandez's future is currently the subject of much speculation, with both Real Madrid and Man United believed to be looking to sign the left-back in 2025.

However, a recent report claimed that Real Madrid had dropped their interest in the defender, with Los Blancos having other priorities in the transfer market.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Milan would listen to serious January offers for Hernandez, with discussions over a new contract at San Siro said to be at a standstill.

The report claims that the Italian giants had valued Hernandez at least €50m (£41.6m) over the summer, but that figure has now dropped due to the uncertainty surrounding his future.

Milan 'open to Hernandez sale in January'

Hernandez, who has a contract with his Italian side until June 2026, is allegedly 'happy in Milan' and is keen to sign a new deal, but if a fresh contract cannot be agreed, then he will almost certainly leave before the end of next summer's transfer window.

Man United are said to be determined to sign a new left-back next year, with Red Devils head coach Ruben Amorim looking for a specialist in the left-sided wing-back position.

A deal for Diego Leon has allegedly already been agreed, with the 17-year-old set to make the move to Old Trafford from Cerro Porteno at the end of the campaign.

However, a senior player in that position is also wanted, and Hernandez is said to be on a shortlist which also includes Bayern Munich's Alphonso Davies and Girona's Miguel Gutierrez.

Would Hernandez be a good signing for Man United?

There are ongoing concerns surrounding Luke Shaw's fitness, with the England international once again on the sidelines with a muscular problem, and he is not expected to be back until the start of 2025.

Diogo Dalot continues to look unconvincing when operating as a left-sided wing-back, while Tyrell Malacia has only just returned from 18 months on the sidelines with a serious knee injury.

Hernandez has scored twice and provided two assists in 18 appearances for his Italian side during the 2024-25 campaign.

The 27-year-old arrived at San Siro from Real Madrid in the summer of 2019, and he has represented his current team on 231 occasions in all competitions, scoring 31 goals and registering 41 assists.

Hernandez is a classy performer who is proven at the top level, and the fact that he can also operate in a back three would make him a valuable signing for Man United, with Milan potentially being forced to accept a cut-price offer.
