Alastair Cook admits that he his future as England captain must be looked at after Australia moved into a 4-0 Ashes lead courtesy of an eight-wicket win at Melbourne.

Alastair Cook has hinted that he may consider his future as England captain after they lost their fourth consecutive Ashes Test in Melbourne on Sunday.

The tourists fell to an eight-wicket defeat at the MCG, with Chris Rogers scoring 116 and Shane Watson 85 not out as Australia moved into a perfect 4-0 advantage in the series, with one encounter remaining in Sydney.

England's dour performances down under have led to criticism of Cook's captaincy, and despite feeling that their match preparation has been reasonable, the 29-year-old has admitted that there will inevitably be questions about his leadership considering the hugely disappointing results.

"Yes. It's something you do look at as captain and leader of the group," he told reporters.

"I feel as if we are doing the right things. If I didn't think we were doing the right things, we'd have changed the way we are approaching things – training and all that.

"I think we're preparing in the right way, but just not delivering it out there – or Australia aren't allowing us to."

Cook dropped both Australia openers, Rogers and David Warner, in the opening hour of the fourth day as England, who once led by 116 runs with 10 second-innings wickets in tact, let a promising position slip.
