Former captain Nasser Hussain has claimed that England played "almost the perfect Test match" in the first match of The Ashes against Australia.
The hosts won by 169 runs in Cardiff to take a 1-0 series lead, and Hussain believes that they showed character following their 5-0 defeat in the last Ashes campaign.
He told Sky Sports News: "It was almost the perfect Test match and it's very rare that you get the perfect Test match performance.
"And it's very rare that you start an Ashes series with a perfect performance. Bearing in mind they've come in off the back of a 5-0 defeat in Australia, England were absolutely outstanding from the first ball.
"It's been a great start to the series, especially if you're an England fan and a player."
The second Test starts at Lord's on Thursday.
