Joe Root: 'It doesn't matter where I bat'

England batsman Joe Root insists that he would have no problem being moved up the order again to fill the void left by Jonathan Trott in the second Ashes Test.

Joe Root has insisted that he is comfortable batting anywhere for England and would be happy to step into Jonathan Trott's number-three spot for the second Ashes Test.

Trott will take no part further in the series, having flown home following the 381-run defeat in the opening match of the series at Brisbane to begin his recovery from a stress-related illness.

Ian Bell has been tipped to be promoted from five to fill the void left by Trott for next week's Test at Adelaide, but Root is also thought to be an option considering his experience at the top of the order.

The Yorkshireman, who opened for England in the home series last summer and batted at six at the Gabba, has admitted that he would have no problem being shifted up the order again.

"It doesn't really matter to me," Root told reporters. "I just love playing for England, you've heard me say that before, regardless of where. Three, five, six or opening it's been brilliant.

"If I get the chance to do it, it will be a great experience and a good challenge for me, and I look forward to doing it. When you go out there, you go in a number of situations and it's just making sure you are well equipped to deal with them.

"I'll be making sure I prepare well over the next couple of days and going in feeling comfortable and confident. This is a great opportunity to go out there and make a statement as a team and put massive scores on the board."

Root has scored 791 runs at an average of 39.55 in his 12 England Tests.
