Three arrests have been made after 'Just Stop Oil' protesters ran onto the pitch at the start of the second Ashes Test between England and Australia.

The climate group disrupted the World Snooker Championships earlier this year as two protesters threw orange powder onto the table and attempted to glue themselves to a pocket.

On Wednesday morning, representatives of the same organisation ran onto the outfield at Lord's after the conclusion of the first over.

England wicket-keeper Jonny Bairstow was shown live on television coverage carrying one protester to the boundary after they had attempted to throw orange powder over the pitch.

Another protester was also apprehended by security, aided by England captain Ben Stokes, and the game was able to continue once groundstaff had removed the orange powder on the in-field.

The Metropolitan Police has since confirmed that a total of three arrests have been made, with the incident being condemned by chief executive of Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) Guy Lavender.

As quoted by BBC Sport, Lavender said: "Their actions not only endanger themselves and those who work at the ground, but they have consistently shown complete disregard for the people who pay to attend events, not just here at Lord's but around the country at other sporting venues.

England won the toss at Lord's, but Australia defied bowling-friendly conditions to move through the opening 90 minutes of the Test match without losing a wicket. body check tags ::
